Beautiful Red Gold Rings
Gold has many subtle variations in colour. By changing the alloys I use with fine gold I can get many different hues. One of my favorites is red gold. It is a strong colour and works well on it's own or with the yellow and white gold. Copper is used to achieve the red. In yellow gold, sterling silver and copper are used and in white gold palladium and silver are used. Compared to white gold, red and yellow gold are quite a bit harder.
The pieces that are shown on this site all use red gold in some form - as the main colour , or to accentuate the whites and yellows It has it's limitations - it does not cast well - so most items are handmade. I am happy to look at custom made jewellery. It does take longer and a fair amount of correspondence is needed to make sure we both know what you want.
The warm colour of red gold makes it ideal for wedding bands and engagement rings. A lot of the old jewelry from past times had a rose gold look. The hardness make it great for men's wedding rings - boys will be boys and having to worry about ones wedding band getting damaged is a pain. The other alternative is a titanium ring.
I also combine the red gold with titanium - what a beautiful combination of colour and hardness - the grey and red look very good together. I inlay the red gold into titanium wedding rings and titanium bangles. I also create spinner rings or "stress ring" as they are known.
In most cases the other colours of gold (yellow and white) are laid into the red gold and titanium - being softer than the titanium and 9ct red. We can seldom do it the other way around.
If your are looking for rings with some kind of meaning - look at the rune rings. The wedding rings are made in titanium and gold - the spinner part is titanium and I cut ancient rune symbols into the titanium - you choose the runes that mean something to you and your partner.
Sterling silver creates a good contrast, it less expensive than the other metals and wears well with two or three coulred metals.
If you would like other symbols just let me know and I will see if it is possible. Celtic wedding rings are always a winner - although the red gold is sometimes too hard for accurate knot work.
If you would like to see a very wide range of rings you can see our main site www.africangold.co.za - classical designs and african styles - here you will find no prices but send me an email and I will quote.
